The photos of John's aviaries are pensioner designed and built, which are loosely designed after the Opera House, in regard to his placement of the shadecloth. The remaining photos are of the Opera House residents ie photo 3 is a pair of beautiful Double Bar finches, photo 4 is a Star Finch on the left, a young Orange Breast Finch and the last on the right is a young Jacarini finch. Photo 8 is a pair of Ruddies.
The aviary is not like the Opera House really, it's more like a standard 1.56m tin shed, with 2m flight section attached on a base of treated pine sleepers. The roof is covered with shadecloth, with a 30cm frame over the tin shed section, which keeps it cooler in the warmer months. The flight section has a polycarbonate roof fitted, which lets in less rain. On the ground is 2 plants in pots, a bushy Lilly Pilly (Acemena smithii) and an umbrella tree, (Schefflera actinophylla) and a ground cover plant (the birds like chomping on it, so at the moment it stays).
